Sean Cleary is a third-generation Bismarck resident who is grateful to call North Dakota home.
Sean was born and raised in Bismarck and is an alumnus of the University of Mary and the University of North Dakota. He is an active member in the community, as a member of the Rotary, a member of the Corpus Christi parish, and a board member of the University of Mary Alumni Association.
After college, Sean moved to Washington DC to serve on the staff of U.S. Senator John Hoeven. He returned to North Dakota to earn a master’s degree in applied economics. Following graduate school, he worked as a data analyst in the education and insurance industries.
Later, Sean would move home to Bismarck and join the staff of Governor Doug Burgum, where he focused on healthcare and financial services policy. As an advisor to the governor, Sean worked with the Legislature, cabinet officials, and other statewide elected leaders to advance policies to unlock North Dakota's potential. His experience in public service has given him the opportunity to work at both the state and federal levels on behalf of North Dakotans.
Currently, Sean works for the Medora Foundation, where he is dedicated to sharing the beauty of western North Dakota with visitors throughout the country.
Today, Sean is running for the legislature because he wants to continue serving his community and strengthen it for years to come. He will fight for quality educational opportunities, good-paying jobs, and lower taxes. Sean is guided by the values of faith, family, and hard work, and these values will help guide every decision he makes in the State Senate.
Sean and his wife Amy were married in December of 2020. They welcomed their first child, Audrey, in January of 2022.
